Collocation Explorer detects collocations automatically using our licensed version of the British National Corpus. The statistical measures we use for Collocation Explorer run on a 20-million portion of the BNC. We have designed a novel corpus indexing in order to increase the speed and accuracy of our collocation searches. When you want to learn how to use a vocabulary word, you need to know what other words are commonly used with it. For example, in English we say 'take medicine' and not 'eat medicine'. Also, we say 'spend time' not 'pay time'. You can explore this kind of knowledge yourself here by entering the word you want to investigate and its part of speech.
